Amy Lynn Stauffer

October 13, 1968 -

Amy Lynn Stauffer WEST SALEM — Amy Lynn Stauffer (maiden Axelsen), precious wife and mother, was the fourth daughter born to Richard and Emily (Luedtke) Axelsen on Oct. 13, 1968.
Amy grew up in Sparta and returned after college looking for a position with the Sparta School District. During that time, she met and married the love of her life, Christopher J. Stauffer from Boscobel, Wis., on June 5, 1993. Together they have two children; Chloe Christine (15) and S. Jackson (13). They settled in West Salem after she started teaching at Lawrence Lawson Elementary, Sparta, in 1994.
With dedication to continuing education, Amy earned both a Bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin La Crosse and Master’s degree from Viterbo University in Education. An outstanding teacher and role model, children often described her as their ‘favorite ever’. She enjoyed a rich friendship with her co-workers. Amy had a decorating flair, prosperous green thumb, and artistic genius with crafts like jewelry making and creating mosaics.
Amy was tremendously proud of her children. She enjoyed ballgames with her family of Panther parents. Amy had a joyful, mischievous sense of humor, and was a great story-teller of her student’s classroom antics and family. It was probably a toss-up for her favorite season; fall and Oktoberfest or Christmas. Precious sister time included canoeing at the lake and Christmas shopping. Her arch nemeses were mice and bats.
Amy is survived by her husband, Chris; children, Chloe and Jackson; her mother, Emily Axelsen of Sparta; her mother-in-law, Barbara Stofflet of Boscobel; sisters, Allyson (Terry) Schrab of Mayville, Anne (Steve) Miller of Appleton, Andrea (Gary Fernholz) Axelsen of Black River Falls, and Barbi Stauffer of Fitchburg; brothers, Toby (Jeri) Stauffer of Holmen, and Ben Stauffer of La Crosse. Nephews and nieces from both sides of the family will dearly miss their Auntie Amy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard W. Axelsen; her father in-law, LaVerne R. Stauffer; and special father-in-law, Don Stofflet.
A memorial service will be held at 10:13 a.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, West Salem. Private family burial will be held at a later time.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4:44 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 7 a.m. until time of services at the church on Friday. Online condolences may be offered at

Ms. Stauffer was an excellent teacher when I was in my 2nd-grade year in Lawerance Lawson.
